The Davis Family

Jefferson Davis, the blind photographer, hails from Greenville, South Carolina. A day after he was born, he contracted Spinal Meningitis from the hospital. Because of this illness, JD has Septo-Optic Dysplasia, which is an illness with many symptoms. One of those symptoms is that JD is blind in his left eye, as he has been his entire life, and the optic nerve in his right eye is atrophic and dying. The process of losing his eyesight started early in his life, however, it only recently came more into focus as something that will happen sooner rather than later. JD is grateful for the unwavering support of family and friends, especially his wife.

Deana Davis, JD’s wife, was born and raised in Phoenix Metro (Arizona). She graduated from Texas Christian University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in geology. While she only worked in the field for a short time, she spends some free time collecting rocks — you may spot her looking at rocks everywhere she goes. Deana moved to South Carolina in the winter of 2017, with her dad and younger sister, so they could be closer to her older sister. She met the love of her life shortly thereafter.

Deana and Jefferson met in November of 2021 at work. Deana started working where JD was a supervisor; it did not take long for love to bloom. They were married in the spring of 2023, honeymooned in beautiful Ireland, and moved in July of 2024 to Payson, Arizona (one of Deana’s favorite places in the southwest). They live there with their three rescue dogs, Cinnamon, Stanley and Bella.
